Saturday Afternoon

In this session you learn some basics of cryptography that are referred to in everyday Blockchain parlance.

Blockchain technology borrows heavily from the mature science of Cryptography. In order to appreciate how blockchain works (especially if you want to dig deeper) you need to familiarize some of the commonly used terms of Cryptography.

The contents covered in this section will interest you tremendously if you have an inclination for mathematics and puzzles. I have illustrated some examples using codes, so that you can see the concepts in action and better understand them; however it is not mandatory to follow the code illustrations or to replicate them.

At the end of this afternoon session you should be able to answer the following:

  1. What is a Hash function?
  2. How can hashing be used to verify the integrity of a document?
  3. What are Public and Private Keys?
  4. What is a Digital Signature and when is it useful?
